Often times weddings are lavish affairs that include as many friends and family as possible, and sometimes they are small, intimate events that include only the nearest and dearest to the couple. And I happen to adore these smaller weddings! Hillary and John’s bohemian brunch wedding at Villa Terrace in Milwaukee was just that – intimate, relaxed, and full of love!
I knew Hillary and I would be fast friends when she first reached out to me about photographing their wedding. She is all about the light, airy, and feminine vibes (a bride after my own heart!), and immediately knew she wanted to keep her wedding as relaxed and intimate as possible, in order to focus on the love that her and John share for each other.
As Hillary puts it, she and John are non-traditional and very laid back, so they wanted to throw out the “rule book” and plan a wedding that was a perfect reflection of their personalities and relationship. Working in the wedding industry herself, Hillary has seen practically every major wedding venue in Milwaukee, but nothing could compare next to her love for Villa Terrace. The renaissance mansion, the immaculate gardens, the romantic courtyard…what’s not to love? Hillary and John decided this gorgeous estate was the perfect backdrop for their beautiful brunch wedding, with a romantic, bohemian twist.
Everything from the bright, flirty florals, to the mismatched floral-printed bridesmaid dresses, to the ever-flowing mimosas (and biscuit bar, hello!) gave this brunch an up-scale yet relaxed vibe. Even the fog rolling in off the lakefront made for a beautiful white-washed backdrop during their vows.
Hillary and John exchanged some of the most heartfelt vows I’ve ever heard (and I’m not just saying that – their guests actually applauded after the bride finished reading hers!). What’s so amazing about these two is that the loyalty and passion they have for one another is so completely evident. You can feel Hillary’s enthusiasm just to be next to John, and the unmistakable way John’s face lights up when he sees Hillary. It is so sweet to witness the deep adoration and respect these two have for one another.
You could really feel the love that surrounded them the entire day. In every speech, every hug, and every laugh, it was there. It was perfect.
Congratulations, Hillary and John! Thank you for letting me be part of your beautiful day, and I wish you a lifetime of happiness and the best of luck in Michigan!
